TRANSPORT INTERCHANGES

Interchange between different modes of transport and improvements to the urban environment are important elements in improving the attractiveness of public transport, walking and cycling.

With funding awarded in June 2004 by the Scottish Executive, improved transport interchanges at Inverurie, Peterhead and Banchory, plus other locations across the area, are being developed by Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership.  Aberdeen City Council are also taking forward a major urban realm programme, which includes the partial pedestrianisation of Union Street and improved links with bus and rail stations.  The private sector-led Union Square development will remodel Aberdeen bus station and the railway station forecourt, providing better facilities and easier interchange between bus and rail.

Nestrans will also promote and support new initiatives to enhance transport interchange through integrated ticketing and better travel information.
