Capital Programme 2010-11

Nestrans has been awarded just over £2.8 million in 2010-11 by Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils to fund strategic transport improvements across the region.  

The funding is being allocated to:

Strategic Road Capacity Improvements - £410,000
Construction of a segregated left turn lane from King George VI Bridge to West Tullos Road as identified in the Access to Aberdeen from the South Study.  Improvements to the traffic signal optimisation system on the Dyce Drive corridor and installation of traffic signals and filter lanes at A944 Wellgrove Rd/Straik Rd, Westhill  

Strategic Road Safety Improvements - £500,000
Undertaking a Route Action Study on the A947 and resultant preliminary design.  Pedestrian safety improvements on Guild Street and street lighting improvements on the King Street corridor.  Preliminary design work, building on option appraisal undertaken in 2009/10, to replace the existing roundabouts on Wellington Road at the junctions with Hareness Road and Souterhead Road with traffic signals, as proposed in the Access to Aberdeen from the South Study.

Strategic Road Prioritised Maintenance - £1,038,000
Implementation of strategic road prioritised maintenance schemes, including waterproofing and drainage improvements to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge over the River Dee.  Carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing northbound on Ellon Rd from Balgownie Crescent to The Parkway, including the roundabout at North Donside Road and at the A944 Westhill roundabout.  Resurfacing of the junction of the A92 with the U124K to St Cyrus, the A952 New Leeds to Cairnchina and the A93 Ballater Road in Aboyne from Huntly Road to west of Balmoral Terrace.

Bus Improvements - £535,000
Specimen design and planning application for A90 (S) Park & Choose site.   Review of signal timings in the John St/St Andrew St/Charlotte St/George St area.  Contribution towards costs for bus infrastructure improvements in Banff/MacDuff and on the Bus Punctuality Improvement Partnership Buchan - King Street corridor.

Walking and Cycling - £345,000
Further funding allocated towards provision and upgrading of strategic Core Paths.  Detailed design of A96 Aberdeen - Blackburn path, following on from previously funded feasibility study.  Upgrade of the National Cycle Network Route 1 from Seaton Park and filling in the missing link through the Donside Paper Mills site.  Traffic Signal upgrades to assist pedestrians in Stonehaven at Market Square and Kirkton Road at the Railway Bridge.

Various - £10,000
Installation of Car Club parking bays at various locations in Aberdeen City Centre.

The capital programme is managed by the Nestrans Executive team, with the projects being delivered by officers in the two councils.  Progress reports on the delivery of the programme and budget monitoring are made to the Nestrans Board at regular intervals.
