Nestrans commission and assist with a number of transport studies for the north east
The information below details the background to the range of studies which are currently taking place. Full information and updates on all studies, as well as previous studies, can be found under the Documents page.
Fraserburgh and Peterhead to Aberdeen Strategic Transport Study (FPASTS)
The purpose of the study is to identify and examine the options for improving strategic transport connections between Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen incorporating the Energetica corridor and will cover all modes of transport including rail, bus, road and active travel connections.
Roads Hierarchy Review and Locking in the Benefits of the AWPR
The AWPR will have a significant impact on the operation of the road network within the North East. The sections of the current Trunk Road network within the boundaries of the AWPR will be detrunked on completion of the route and the relief afforded by the AWPR will provide an opportunity to implement measures to “lock in the benefits” for sustainable modes. Nestrans continues to work with the Councils to consider how the road hierarchy should change and to identify integrated measures to lock in the benefits.
Aberdeen Cross City Connections Study
A feasibility study to investigate ways to maximise connectivity between new developments in the Aberdeen Local Development Plan.
Access from the South (Bridge of Dee) Study
This study considers options for improvements in the Bridge of Dee area, which acts as a ‘bottleneck’ affecting the A90 and local routes in the south of Aberdeen. The Bridge of Dee is currently constrained by the existing Grade A Listed historic structure, which has insufficient capacity to cope with current demand at peak times, leading to congestion and unreliable journey times.
