Transport minister to hear north-east HS2 concerns

A delegation of north-east business leaders is meeting with Transport Minister Baroness Kramer in London today to discuss how to mitigate the impact of HS2 on the region. A report carried out by KPMG last year found that the north-east of Scotland could lose out on an estimated £220million in economic output if the high speed rail project goes ahead, with Dundee expected to suffer another £100million in negative economic impact. Nestrans highlight issues facing north-east train passengers to key agencies

In November 2013 Nestrans commissioned AECOM to survey the occupancy levels on peak period rail services in the north-east between Stonehaven and Inverurie. A key finding shows that there is an increase in overcrowded journeys on peak services. Following the full results of this survey Nestrans have contacted key agencies including Transport Scotland, Scotrail and Network Rail to identify some of the issues that face train passengers in the north-east. Nestrans’ Regional Transport Strategy approved by Scottish Minister

Following a review Nestrans’ Regional Transport Strategy (RTS) has been approved by Keith Brown Minister for Transport and Veterans this month. The document sets out the challenges facing Aberdeen City and Shire over the next 20 years and how they will be addressed.  It includes a comprehensive appraisal of the problems and issues affecting transport in the north east and sets clear objectives for improving transport in the region to 2035. Nestrans strengthen Board with appointment of new members

Nestrans have appointed three non-councillor Board members following approval from Scottish Ministers. The appointed Board members are Gerry Donald Head of Property and Asset Development at NHS Grampian, Duncan Cameron Director and General Manager of First Aberdeen and Sandra Macdonald former councillor for Aberdeen City Council.
