The upgrade to the bottleneck on the A96 at Inveramsay Bridge, where traffic lights have been in place for decades, is to open under traffic management on Friday 18 March. The £10.2 million infrastructure project will carry the A96 over the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line and will end queuing at lights, improve journey time reliability and reduce the risk of bridge strikes and associated disruption. Nestrans welcomes plans for additional North east rail services

Transport Minister Derek MacKay announced 200 extra rail services per day are to be introduced across Scotland, at an event held in Stirling today [Tuesday, 15 March]. Of the 200 new services being introduced by ScotRail, 70 will service the North east region, including an hourly ‘local’ service across Aberdeen city, between Inverurie and Montrose, stopping at all stations. Additionally, extra capacity will create a half hourly service between Aberdeen and Inverurie, and the introduction of early morning and late evening services to Elgin, Keith, Huntly and Insch. On Track for Success: North east rail passenger figures top 6 million as region predicted to see further growth

Total passenger figures from stations across the north east have topped a record high for recent years, as new statistics for 2014/15 are announced by the Office of Rail and Road regulator (ORR). Passenger numbers at the eight stations across Aberdeen City & Shire are up by an average of 3.96% on the previous year, with over 6 million entries and exits through the stations. The figures show an incredible increase over recent years given numbers a decade ago in 2004/05 were yet to top even 3 million. The announcement …
