People and Place Programme 2026/27

Applications for Our 2026/27 Programme

You can submit your application for our 2026/27 programme from Monday 17 November until 5pm on Thursday 11 December 2025.

Work with Us

The purpose of Transport Scotland’s People and Place programme is “to deliver place-based sustainable and active travel behaviour change projects that will support people to make more of their daily journeys by walking, wheeling, and cycling, and to bridge the gaps that exist between those journeys and the public transport network with options that are more sustainable than the motor car.”

Nestrans’ main objective is for active and sustainable travel to be more embedded in the everyday habits of more people across the North East, with more making active and sustainable everyday journeys.

Building on the successes from the transitional first year of the programme (2024/25) and progress that has already been made to date during 2025/26 (Year 2), Nestrans are looking for delivery partners to work with us to further strengthen and grow the programme into 2026/27 (Year 3).

How to Apply

  1. Download and review a copy of our Programme Plan. This comprehensive document gives guidance to applicants on the purpose of the programme and an overview of the project themes and activity areas we are looking to support. The document also details the grant offer process, and explains how we monitor and evaluate successful projects.
  2. Download and complete our application form, making sure to refer to the Programme Plan to help you give the best overview of how your project can support the People and Place Programme.
  3. If you have any questions or queries during the application window, you can get in touch with our People and Place team at peopleandplace@nestrans.org.uk.
  4. Submit your completed application, and any supporting documents by 5pm Thursday 11 December.

What Happens Next?

All applications received will be reviewed against an Assessment Framework. You can find a copy of this framework for reference in the Programme Plan. Nestrans officers, together with senior officers from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Council will separately review and score the applications received.  To further support the open and transparent nature of this process, an independent assessor will be asked to be part of this stage of bid review.

All submissions will be assessed against the same Framework and feedback will be provided on all the applications received, whether supported or otherwise.

The final list of supported projects will be submitted by Nestrans to Transport Scotland on 30th January 2026.

Following confirmation from Transport Scotland, all applicants will be informed of the outcome by 13 February 2026.
