European Mobility Week

THE Getabout team will take to the streets of Aberdeen on Saturday 17th September  to celebrate European Mobility Week by encouraging people of all ages to get active and consider less polluting ways to get about the city.

For one day only, Getabout will take over Belmont Street for a big bike and bus extravangza from 10am – 16:30pm.

Across the week, cities and towns across Europe will participate in the most widespread sustainable mobility event, hitting out against pollution caused by the increase in motorised traffic in an effort to improve the quality of urban life.

In Aberdeen there will be a collection of mini, tandem and recumbent bikes to try out as well as an opportunity to take part in an Adventure Aberdeen mountain bike skills course. The Energy Savings Trust will also be giving free eco-driving lessons to car users across the city in a bid to encourage car sharing.

Children will also get the chance to win a bike by entering the Breathe Easy poster design competition.

As well as finding out about low pollution healthy  travel options, members of the public will be able to sign up to become Getabout members. By pledging to take different travel options to help to ease the congestion and air pollution on the roads they will be eligible for a range of exclusive travel offers and giveaways.

Right across the week, Getabout’s cycle roadshow will visit schools and local businesses across the city before hitting the road to kick start the big bike show in Peterhead on Saturday 24th September.
