A NEW guide which provides a guide to bus and rail travel in Aberdeen City and Shire will be launched today (Wednesday, June 1) by regional transport partnership Nestrans  in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, First in Aberdeen, Stagecoach and the Getabout Partnership.

The Park & Ride Guide includes the train route from Laurencekirk through Aberdeen to Huntly and bus services from Ellon, Bridge of Don and Kingswells park and rides as well as useful information on journey times, parking availability and ticket prices.

It also has a handy reference list of other information portals including the new realtimebus.com website which allows First bus commuters to find out when their bus is due, find the best stop on a map and get up to the minute notice on any delays before they reach the bus stop.

The free guide will be available at bus and rail stations throughout Aberdeen City and Shire, Tourist Information Centres and at local authority buildings.

It was launched at Aberdeen’s Castlegate by Nestrans  Director Derick Murray and will be supported with advertising on First and Stagecoach buses on routes throughout the area.

Derick Murray said: “The north-east has 10 park and ride sites and a strong supporting network of bus and rail facilities which provide regular, affordable and sustainable alternatives to taking the car into Aberdeen .

“Through the Getabout initiative, Nestrans is working hard to promote the train and bus as attractive alternative travel options and we hope that having all the information needed to efficiently plan a journey collated into this one handy guide will encourage more people to take advantage of the facilities we have here on our doorstep.”

Press welcome to attend the launch at the Castlegate where the three buses promoting  Park and ride, Getabout and realtime bus.com  will be displayed at 11:15am today.
