Stagecoach Bluebird has unveiled the new branding of service 59, which is now known as “Hospital Direct.” The 59-bus route, which serves Northfield and Balnagask from Aberdeen city centre up to every 10 minutes, is now more recognisable as an alternative to those driving to and from work or visiting at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at the Foresterhill site.
Stagecoach Bluebird is working alongside NHS Grampian to encourage travel by bus to the hospital to escape the daily traffic congestion and overcrowding within the hospital car parks.
Stagecoach offer many money saving tickets for those travelling to the hospital including the Aberdeen dayrider ticket at £2.80, which offers 1 day’s unlimited travel, or the Aberdeen megarider for only £13 offering 7 days’ unlimited travel, both throughout the Aberdeen city boundaries. For NHS Grampian and Aberdeen University employees who work within the Foresterhill hospital site, Stagecoach Bluebird offer further discounts on the Aberdeen megarider and Aberdeen megarider+ tickets, at only £11 and £13.50 respectively by simply showing their valid staff pass to the driver.
Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director, Stagecoach Bluebird said: “The new ‘Hospital Direct’ is a welcome addition to our fleet of branded vehicles which allow our passengers to easily recognise the bus routes. In today’s climate, taking the bus can be a much cheaper and more environmentally friendly travel option to get to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. We are keen to encourage people to try a change in lifestyle by giving the bus a go to see that it can be a realistic alternative to the car. Bus travel can also be a healthy alternative, a short walk to the bus stop can make a huge difference in leading a healthy lifestyle and with buses every 10 minutes it’s never been easier to try the bus!”
To celebrate the new branding, which is now recognisable as a direct route to the hospital, Stagecoach Bluebird unveiled the new livery on Thursday 9th September to local councillors, public transport unit representatives and hospital staff.
Jim Ferguson, Associate Facilities Director for NHS Grampian said: “The new Hospital Direct brand is a great way for staff, patients and visitors to quickly identify the bus that will take them to ARI. NHS Grampian welcome the increase in frequency of this service, which also serves Royal Cornhill Hospital and Woolmanhill Hospital. In working jointly with Stagecoach to promote this new service we hope it will encourage more people to travel to our sites by public transport”.
