Plans for infrastructure which will support the forthcoming railway station at Kintore will go on display to the public next week, ahead of the project reaching a major milestone in the coming month when a formal planning application is submitted.
A pre-application exhibition will be held next Wednesday (14 March) in Kintore, giving members of the public and stakeholders the opportunity to drop-in and find out more about the project. Proposed plans for the development of the car park, access road and transport interchange will be on display with officers from Aberdeenshire Council and Network Rail on hand to discuss any questions or concerns. The session will run from 3pm-8pm at The Bothie, Allandale Gardens, Kintore, AB51 0UT.
The wider station project, which is jointly funded by Aberdeenshire Council, Nestrans, and the Scottish Stations Fund, with support from Network Rail will see the construction of new station platforms, lifts/overbridge, passenger waiting shelters, a new access road, a 160-space car park, a pedestrian and cycle path and secure cycle parking facilities.
Additional work for the project has also been underway, with the recent completion of a geotechnical survey – the first stage in the construction of the project – with noise surveys, ecological work and drainage assessments also completed.
The outcomes of these processes will inform a planning application which will be submitted to Aberdeenshire Council later this spring, giving interested parties the opportunity to make formal representations on the designs to the planning authority.
The new station, which accompanies Network Rail’s Aberdeen to Inverness Improvement Project, is due to re-open to passenger services in late 2019.
Councillor Peter Argyle, who is Chair of Nestrans, Deputy Leader of Aberdeenshire Council and Chair of their Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “The supporting infrastructure at Kintore plays an important role in making the station an accessible, secure and welcoming facility. This is key in making rail travel an attractive option for users and offers them a smooth transfer between different services and modes.”
