Data Provision to Support LTS Delivery and Monitoring
Aberdeenshire CouncilEnhance Transport Monitoring
Assess economic benefits of new infrastructure
Monitor progress for Aberdeenshire Council's Local Transport Strategy
This project is to provide Aberdeenshire Council data from the mobile network which can track transport movements across the region.
This includes GPS data from the mobile network such as origin/destination data which is split by time of day and day of the week, traveller trip purposes and demographic characteristics. It also includes heat mapping covering Aberdeenshire town centres. This helps to understand dwell times within town centres and can be backdated to study historic data and trends. It can identify the surrounding catchments of main towns and their disposable income, which can be used to measure the economic impact new infrastructure has on our town centres and the benefits this can bring.
The funding will cover an add on to this project which looks at Mastercard spending. This can be used with the footfall data to monitor the economic boost to town centres. Aberdeenshire Council will be able to use the data to monitor progress towards actions in the Local Transport Strategy. The data will reveal trends and allow Aberdeenshire Council to gain a better understanding of the new and future mobility landscape.
The long-term goal of the project is to use the data to compare annually the change in modal transport rates across the region. This can be used to specifically monitor new transport infrastructure such as cycle paths and initiatives such as the Integrated Travel Towns.
