Huntly Travel Hub - Going Places
Huntly Development TrustExpand Huntly Travel Hub services
Develop sustainable travel schemes with partners
Deliver walking and cycling sessions
Support Huntly community and surrounding area
Countless surveys have identified that getting around Huntly and District if you don’t own or have access to a car is extremely challenging. And yet, the evidence from other places shows that if you can provide good quality, convenient and affordable active/sustainable travel options this need not be the case, with great benefits to health, the environment and people’s overall quality of life. Hence, the Huntly Travel Hub (HTH) was born…
Huntly Development Trust (HDT) has been operating the HTH since 2014. It has grown from two e-bikes to a current fleet of 18 e-bikes, two Co-wheels cars, the community minibus and a dedicated town centre space.
The HTH provides maps and (active) travel information to all in our community and visitors to the area. It has also developed a masterplan to improve walking opportunities across the AB54 area, built three foot- and cycle paths on the ground, and led design work to make walking and cycling more attractive in Huntly itself through the Mini Holland Huntly initiative.
This project will support the Huntly Travel Hub in their plans to:
- Continue to provide and develop the current HTH services (Co-wheels car club, e-bikes, community minibus, maps and information) from an accessible public space base in Huntly town centre
- Work with partners such as Aberdeenshire Council, Network Rail and others to develop path improvement/accessibility/sustainable travel schemes for which some groundwork has already been done e.g. Mini Holland Huntly and connecting paths to outlying areas
- Deliver a range of walking and cycling/mountain bike related instruction sessions and events (e.g. health walks/walk leadership/learn-to-bike/confidence rides/Trail Therapy and others) to meet community needs with the goal of increasing sustainable travel
- Identify the next steps, partners and funding to take forward sustainable and active travel Huntly and District over the coming years.
