Scottish Cycling's Rock Up & Ride programme is a national initiative aimed at reducing barriers to cycling for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. By providing free access to bikes and fun cycling sessions, the programme promotes health, resilience, and active travel. The project partners with local communities to tailor its delivery to local needs, ensuring maximum impact. Scottish Cycling has successfully partnered with the Ythan Cycling Club for several years and more recently since April 2023 to implement a Rock Up & Ride adaptive bike library in Ellon. This also utilises the excellent Ellon Wheel Park facility and helps to reduce some of the barriers to cycling for those with disabilities.
Scottish Cycling aims to continue funding the Ellon adaptive bike library, providing cycling opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Along with making bikes available, free cycling skills sessions and led rides are provided to help individuals become more confident on a bike and familiar with the local cycling network. The Rock Up & Ride project also offers opportunities for those involved in the delivery to qualify as British Cycling Ride Leaders or Cycling Coaches, significantly impacting individuals in the region. Scottish Cycling is committed to maintaining its partnership with Ythan CC to facilitate the adaptive bike library in Ellon.
