School Active Travel Infrastructure
Aberdeen City CouncilTo provide safe and secure cycle storage for pupils’ cycles
To encourage more pupils to cycle to and from school
To help to promote a shift away from the private car
The project will work with schools who were not covered by the 2025/26 People and Place School Cycle Parking and School Footprints funds, including currently decanted schools, who have expressed an interest in new and / or improved active travel infrastructure, to identify requirements for active travel infrastructure within school grounds and in surrounding areas, and to implement such infrastructure in order to encourage and enable pupils to walk, wheel and cycle to school more. This infrastructure is anticipated to take the form of cycle and scooter parking facilities, active travel route markings, cycle trail markings, etc.
This will ensure that those schools not benefitting from previous rounds of funding, including those schools which are returning to their own premises in the new academic year, do not miss out on the opportunity to acquire active travel infrastructure which will help them to implement their school travel plans and encourage more active travel to and from school by both pupils and staff.
The project will help to meet national, regional and local policies and guidance as it focuses on providing safe routes to school and promoting active travel. It also meets the wider aspirations of the Council to actively engage with schools in implementing their School Travel Plans.
