Walking Communities is a project that focuses on what walking can do for a community.
It works with targeted communities to assess why people walk, why they don’t, what the barriers are and what the benefits of more walking might be. It looks at Transport, Health, Wellbeing and Community and it develops plans for the community that set out clearly how both infrastructure and behaviour change can be delivered that addresses the highlighted barriers and gets more people walking.
This project will see Walking Scotland work with between 2 and 4 communities within the Nestrans area and produce a Walking Action Plan for each community. Using the Walking Action plans they would then look to source additional funding for different elements of delivery in future years.
Longer term these become outputs as the ultimate goal is to get more people walking and to help create friendlier, safer, more attractive environments for the community and for walking in.
