A full-size Aberdeen Rapid Transit (ART) demo vehicle will be unveiled today (Thursday, 4 June 2026) in Broad Street, giving the public a first look at what a future mass transport system could look like in the North East. Regional Transport Partnership, Nestrans, has joined Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils in endorsing progress on the proposed Aberdeen Rapid Transit (ART) system. The Strategic Business Case for ART was reported to the June meeting of the Nestrans Board and follows presentations to Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council earlier this month. Councillor Alan Turner has been appointed as the new chair of Nestrans. The chair will lead the Regional Transport Partnership, as work continues to deliver the 20-year vision for travel in the north east. Councillor Turner is a member of Aberdeenshire Council representing Stonehaven and Lower Deeside and serves as chair of the council’s Infrastructure Services Committee. £200,000 for Aberdeen bus infrastructure Improving bus reliability and making journeys faster

From Transport Scotland: The Scottish Government has awarded £200,000 to the North East Bus Alliance through the Bus Partnership Fund. This will deliver bus priority infrastructure on Market Street, Guild Street, and Bridge Street in Aberdeen city centre – reducing the impact of congestion on bus services and making journeys quicker for passengers. The Nestrans Board is set to discuss advancing efforts to deliver a step-change in public transport for the North East, in order to support a more connected, inclusive, sustainable and energised region.    Technical work has been ongoing to develop a detailed appraisal of options for Aberdeen Rapid Transit (ART).
